Social Media Terms of Use
Youth Mental Health Canada (YMHC) Social Media Terms of Use
Youth Mental Health Canada (YMHC) recognizes that social media are important tools for communicating and engaging with the public. To support online spaces that are as safe, fair, open, and constructive as possible, we ask that all users of YMHC social media accounts follow these Terms of Use.
By contacting or contributing to a YMHC social media account, you agree to:
-
Be respectful of other users.
-
Stay on topic and not upload content or post comments unrelated to the purpose of the account or the specific post.
-
Not engage in harassment, personal attacks, intimidation, or abuse toward individuals or organizations.
-
Not use language that is discriminatory, hateful, or violent toward identifiable groups, or that incites others to discriminate, practice hate, or commit violence.
-
Not break the law or encourage others to do so (including defamation, breaches of privacy, breaching another person’s intellectual property rights such as copyright, or condoning illegal activity).
-
Not post personal information (PII) — including addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, specific location details, or other identifying/contact information — relating to you or any other individual.
-
Not impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or an organization, and not attempt to access or use another user’s account.
-
Not make commercial endorsements or promotions of products, services, or publications, or solicit funds or business unless explicitly authorized by YMHC.
-
If you are under 16, obtain your parent/guardian’s permission before participating. Users without this consent should not participate or provide personal information.
-
Abide by the Terms of Use of the platform hosting the account.
Violating these Terms of Use may result in removal of content and/or restriction or removal of access (including limiting or blocking accounts) to protect the safety and privacy of the community.
Public nature of social media
Social media is public by design. Unless otherwise stated, posts and comments made by the public on YMHC social media accounts may be visible to others, may be shared by other users, and may be retained by the platform. For your safety and privacy, please avoid sharing personal information about yourself or others.
Attribution
These Terms of Use are adapted from publicly available municipal social media terms of use and are intended to reflect privacy- and safety-focused moderation practices.
