Mental wellness is an important aspect of our overall well-being, and it must be prioritized just as much as physical health. Youth Mental Health Canada (YMHC) is pleased to announce the date and location of its upcoming Mental Wellness Fair, which will take place on Saturday, March 25th, 2023, at the Westdale Theatre in Hamilton, Ontario. The event promises to be a memorable opportunity for the Hamilton community to come together to raise awareness about mental health issues, dispel stigma, and celebrate life, hope, and courage.
The Mental Wellness Fair is a fundraising event that aims to raise awareness and funds for local, provincial, and national youth mental health action efforts. It will be an enjoyable and interactive event that will bring together community organizations, mental health professionals, and suicide prevention advocates for a film screening, light bites, and a panel discussion about mental health and wellness.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from McMaster University, McMaster Children’s Hospital, Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton, St. Joseph’s Hospital/COAST, and others. The film, produced by the Los Angeles-based MadPix Films, addresses one of our time’s most perplexing and taboo subjects: suicide. The film is about a survivor of a suicide attempt who sets out to find other survivors and document their stories of bravery, insight, and humor. Along the way, she comes across a growing movement that is turning personal struggles into action.
The Mental Wellness Fair will also include a mental wellness community fair with information tables from local mental health organizations, allowing agencies, organizations, and professionals to network. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about mental health and wellness, as well as the resources available to those in need.
Our mission at YMHC is to actively engage and involve all community stakeholders in understanding and responding to matters impacting youth mental health. The Mental Wellness Fair is one of the ways we are working to achieve this mission, and we invite all members of the Hamilton community to participate. By taking part in this event, you will be supporting us in our efforts to promote mental wellness and raise awareness about the resources available to those in need.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be providing free tickets to postsecondary students in order to increase mental health access to the event. We encourage everyone to donate money to cover ticket costs and support this initiative.
The Mental Wellness Fair is an event you don’t want to miss, so mark March 25th, 2023 on your calendar. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite or at the door.
Community sponsors are welcome to support the event and our ongoing mission to improve youth mental health. Sponsors can be recognized in all event signage and materials, on the YMHC website and social media platforms, and in press releases.
We hope to see you at the Mental Wellness Fair and appreciate your support in raising awareness about mental health and wellness. Together, we can break the stigma surrounding these issues and create a more supportive and inclusive community. For more information about the event, go to ymhc.eventbrite.com.
