## Online Courses

These online courses covering multi-systems of support from tier 1 to 3 help participants develop skills and strategies, obtain information and resources, and improve their understanding of student well-being, school attendance and engagement challenges, disability inclusion and human rights, school stress and trauma responses, and the importance of whole school approaches.

### School Attendance Challenges online course

School-Wide Strategies to Support Students with School Attendance Challenges equips school communities to respond to attendance challenges as complex, often distress-based barriers to education - intersecting with mental health, disability, trauma, systemic inequities, and school climate. Grounded in human rights and accessibility, the course shifts practice from blame and punishment to empathy, curiosity, and collaborative, student-centered planning - using a whole-school, multi-tiered lens (MTSS) to prevent escalation, strengthen belonging and safety, and build sustainable pathways back to learning through flexible accommodations, data-informed support, and “tiny steps” re-engagement.

## Virtual Workshops

### About the Training

Effective upstream prevention of school attendance challenges requires:

- Centering student well-being in educational planning and practice
- Building protective factors and fostering a positive, safe, and supportive school climate
- Implementing needs-based educational approaches that reflect the realities of diverse student needs
- Prioritizing proactive and preventative strategies to address barriers early
- Recognizing shared responsibility for student well-being, suicide prevention, and engagement in education
- Strengthening collaborative education support teams that include students, families, educators, community members, and mental health professionals

The topic of school attendance challenges is one of the most pressing issues in education, student mental health and well-being, and suicide prevention.

A significant number of students lose:

- their education,
- future potential in education, employment, and life,
- peer and school support networks

Risk factors increase with absence from school.

It is time to break the silence on this societal, structural, and systemic issue affecting students.
