OUR VISION

We would like all students from grade six up to be provided with YMHC mental wellness resources, especially young people and their families who might not have the funds available

  • to normalize the conversation about mental health and mental wellness
  • to provide effective, evidence, strength and hope-based mental wellness tools
  • to support students in managing mental health and life challenges
  • to demonstrate our commitment to youth with action
  • to encourage greater peer and school support using our compassionate tools for mental wellness

VALUE TO COMMUNITY

Publicly funded services are struggling to deliver services that respond immediately to the needs of young people and provide effective and thorough follow-up. In an era of public sector cuts, we know that if people really want something to happen, they have to find a way of doing it themselves.

We believe that YMHC is able to provide an excellent opportunity for the community to get involved and feel ownership for mental health education that supports the mental wellness of all students.

THE IMPACT

Health impacts all of us. There is no education without good mental health.

Youth Mental Health Canada has worked with youth from across Canada, as well as international mental health advocates, educators, clinicians, professors and researchers to develop a comprehensive mental wellness resources providing tools to support mental health and wellness. The resources benefit children and youth, school staff, families and the community — today and into the future.

  • Your support of our innovative child and youth mental wellness resources becomes part of the massive shift in health and education needed in youth mental health and wellness and suicide prevention
  • We believe that every individual has the power to make a difference in the world. Your support shows how true this can be.
  • Even the smallest donation means a lot to children and youth who might be struggling with their mental health

ABOUT YMHC

Youth Mental Health Canada is a community-based, grass roots, youth-driven and led non-profit organization focused on education and advocacy for youth mental health change.

We advocate for needs-based, direct funding, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed mental health supports, services and educational accommodations. We believe in the importance of youth, family and community engagement in mental health education, support, advocacy and change. Lived experience of mental health challenges and disabilities and suicide thoughts, attempts and loss must guide and lead the change needed. Greater collaboration is required amongst youth, families, educators, mental health and health care organizations and professionals and government officials and agencies.

We believe that mental health and physical health should be valued equally. We need immediate and effective responses to mental health issues and crises. Waiting one year to access therapy, have a psychological-educational assessment and/or participate in in-patient or out-patient programs needs to change. We know what works for youth with mental health disabilities in the school system and we strongly advocate for suicide prevention strategies that demonstrate the value we place on the lives of all youth in Canada.

We share international best practice and evidence-based news and information on youth mental health issues.

Please feel free to share your ideas, insights, stories, input, questions, news and research with us.
