One suicide is too many. The figure for youth suicides(aged 10 to 24, male and female, Statistics Canada) in Canada for the year 2012 was 552. Clearly we are not doing enough to support youth with mental health challenges and disabilities in Canada. This needs to change.
From experience and research about best practices in healthcare and education, we compiled action statements for use in our video, our documentary film, “Youth Voices, Youth Hope”.
We couldn’t use all of the statements so, we decided to have an action page in our website to highlight these actions and your recommendations for actions.
Please complete your recommendations with your name or anonymously and we will post them to the website.
We hope the action statements will be a national call to action for greater funding of youth mental health healthcare and educational supports and services that benefit all of us. Our actions are a testament to the value we place on the lives of young people, all young people.
